Matthew Kerridge Most people don’t realize just how big of a company Acer Inc. Is. They are the second largest computer company in the world, and considering the number of companies out there that are making computers, this is a big deal. Acer has in it’s collection, seven different series of Acer laptops. Each series caters to the specific needs of the user. Not only do they make excellent laptops, but they make one of the best netbooks on the market. The Acer laptops series include the Acer Aspire series, the Tablet PC series, the Travel Mate series as well as the Aspire Timeline series and the Extensa series.
The Travelmate series of Acer Laptops were designed for business and professional use. These are equipped with a wireless ethernet adapter, a wired ethernet adapter, and a PC card slot. Also included are one or more USB ports which enable the user to hook up external devices. More recent models also have a dual core processor giving the user much more memory and a better graphics card to help with graphics connectivity.
The Tablet PC series is a laptop shaped computer that uses a stylus or finger to maneuver the touch screen aspect of the computer instead of a keyboard or mouse. This little tablet is a way to interact with your PC.
The Acer laptops most popular series is the Aspire series. This grouping contains about seventy-five different models of laptops, including the company’s popular netbook, the Acer Aspire One. This series of laptops was designed for the basic casual user or a small office setting. The first Aspire was released in’99 and changed the world of computers forever.
The Extensa series of Acer laptops is another group of business and professional laptops. There are 9 different models of the Extensa series and they are comparable to the Travelmate series.
Acer has found themselves in the midst of some controversy however, but has managed to come out on top. Another company filed suit against Acer Inc. Claiming the company was copying their patents and ideas including power management in their laptops. Acer filed a counter suit against the suing company for infringements on their own patents and the first company decided it best to settle out of court with the Acer company. It’s no wonder that Acer laptops dominate the market.
Recently, Acer announced that they will start to push the Linux program with their computers, including the Acer laptops. Acer has already started this with their netbooks and has made the Linux operating system increasingly popular. In fact, Acer has already been going after businesses, introducing the Linux operating system into their ranks. Now they are going after home users and the Acer laptops will be containing the Linux system more as time goes on.
