An Argument For and Against Full Coverage Dental Insurance

An insurance plan that gives you full coverage dental insurance is hard to come by, but it does exist. Although many health insurance plans exclude dental coverage, there are hundreds of different dental policies that you can choose from to supplement your existing coverage.

For those lucky enough to have group insurance benefits through work, there’s a good chance that full coverage dental insurance is already being included within the parameters of the plan. The numbers definitely work out favorably here.

How about individually though? Does it make sense to get a full coverage dental plan if you’re self employed or otherwise on your own?

A case can definitely be made for the fact that it doesn’t make sense to go with a dental plan since the monthly expenses won’t ever give you much savings, if any.

Ordinary medical insurance policies can easily save you a ton of money over time. If you’re paying a few thousand dollars per year in medical coverage, an insurance plan that covers you for a serious condition could very well save you huge amounts of money in the long run.

When looking at full coverage dental insurance, you won’t carry the same long-term medical risks and expenses that you do when it comes to your ordinary health. Therefore, there’s only so much that you can get back in return when you’re insured through a dental plan.

When you consider the grand total of a year’s worth of monthly premiums, there’s a much better chance than not that you won’t be spending that amount of money on dental coverage during the year. You’ll have peace of mind knowing that your annual visits will already be covered.

While this is all true, you have to remember that you’ll probably end up spending less money if you set that money aside at the beginning of the year and spend it on your visits to the dentist. There’s a good chance that you’ll save money with this approach.
