Bandos Island Resort – Maldives Holiday Review

Formed above peaks emerging from the depths of the ocean, upon layers of coral debris and living coral, and remnants of other marine life, these tropical islands are found forming the pearls of Indian ocean. Coconut palms tower above dense shrubs and hardy plants protect the shores from erosion and reefs guard as a barrier against the sea forming lagoons. Smaller islands and sandbanks under formation are also able to be perceived underwater.

The new look to Bandos is a nice contemporary casual feel yet still retaining its Maldivian style and charm. Some of the accommodation has interconnecting doors for large families who need to spread out over several rooms.

The main bar and coffee shop are well-placed near the water, and the bar is often a hive of activity until the early hours of the morning. The restaurants, while not particularly inspiring in their decor, do serve a range of quality dishes.

The resort has made a lot of effort to look after and cater for visiting families, providing a purpose-built childcare facility with female staff on hand to look after the children and also provide babysitting in the evenings. So even with the kids along you can still enjoy a romantic break.

There are 84 standard rooms which affront the beach and an additional’ that are not at the beach side. These alternate between double and twin bed layout to provide for families. There are also 48 circular-shaped luxurious Beach villas and 48 Junior suites.

The Bandos resort provides a Kuda Bandos Sunset Wedding for those getting married, which features a taste of traditional island ceremony, a sunset boat ride, unique cultural costumes, Maldivian drums and traditional style and ceremony.

Bandos island resort is both a Platinum Facility of the International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers and a PADI Gold Palm Resort. For diving emergencies their is actually a Decompression Chamber is at your disposal. While diving with the Bandos dive center, all divers are insured free of charge against Decompression Sickness (DCS), requiring chamber treatments up to 6000. Bandos Medical has two Medical doctors (European), a General Practitioner and a Dive Medical Officer and a nurse on location 24 hrs a day.

The diving equipment provided at Bandos is the best and features internationally reputed brands such as Mares, Scubapro, Aqua Lung, Dive Rite and Suunto, to name but a few. It should also comfort customers to know that there is an in-house service shop to ensure that all the equipment is up to standard.
