It is a good time to be a motion picture enthusiast. For a lot of years the only way to see a recent motion picture was to go to the movie theater. After that the video stores came out but there you had to go over there and try to get your movie, it was over and over again out of stock and if you didn’t get it back on time you had to pay a late fee. Now you can get films by mail but you still have to wait.
Inferno – American returns to N.Y. from school in Rome to explore the gruesome death of his sibling, and finds “sinister moms” causing paranormal pandemonium on both sides of Atlantic. Cast includes Leigh McCloskey, Irene Marvel, Sacha Pitoeff, Daria Nicolodi, Eleonora Giorgi, Veronica Lazar, and Alida Valli. (107 minutes,’84)
Say It Isn’t So – Good-humoredly un-ambitious Klein falls for the new hairdresser in town Graham. They have consensual sex and then Klein finds out that Graham is his sister. It is a total flop. Cast includes Heather Graham, Chris Klein, Orlando Jones, Sally Field, Richard Jenkins, John Rothman, Brent Briscoe, and Sarah Silverman. (96 minutes,’88)
The Night of the Iguana – Trudging account based on Tennessee Williams play. Recovered alcoholic clergyman Burton, a bus-journey guide in Mexico, becomes involved with Kerr, Gardner, and Lyon. Unfortunately, when he goes to check in at the resort, the first person he sees is Sarah, and of course her new boyfriend.
Cuba Crossing – Our lead man Stuart Whitman becomes involved in a plan to take out Fidel Castro. Filmed in Key West, Florida, and at minimum the landscape is pretty. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Robert Vaughn, Caren Kaye, Raymond St. Jacques, Woody Strode, Sybil Danning, Albert Salmi, and Michael Gazzo. (90 minutes,’80)
Above the Law – This is Steven Segal’s breakout motion picture. He plays a Chicago Policeman who takes matters into his own hands. As the title implies, he is ‘above the law’. He uses his large body and martial arts skills to wreak destruction on the bad guys. Stars include Steven Segal, Pam Grier, and Sharon Stone. (1988 Action)
