Devid Ascott For several years people would stick to neutral when painting their walls and most of the accessories that were in the room would stick to the same colors. White and beige have been the easy ways to decorate for years. But it’s time to bring that room into the now and add some color.
It is important to try to use items already in your home. Children love to use color in their artwork. Follow their example. In fact, you can use your child’s artwork by using a thin black frame and a clean white mat. This creates a minimalist look that is the perfect showcase for color and art. Multi-colored baskets can be displayed in the kitchen. Another perfect way to decorate is to show off exquisite china.
You have a few options when painting those bare walls in your home. Tape off a square like shape and paint the wall inside of the tape you laid. Why not use a bright color which will be an accent in the room. After the paint dries, rip off the tape and you’ll have a great color scheme starting in your room.
Perhaps you want to try another technique for painting the room. With using a sponge to paint the walls you’ll get a more soft patter. Using bright colors or just colors you love to see. You can sponge paint the wall by first apply a coat to the wall, and let it dry. Once that’s done take a sponge and place it into the paint, dab the wall with the paint, this will leave a spotted look to the wall. There are several other techniques to use, like dragging, ragging, or something else.
Choosing specific accessories can add great interest in the room by its colors. For instance flowers, vases, quilts or other colorful objects will add a great depth of color into the room. Abstract art is always filled with bright lively colors and unique shapes.
Something else that can greatly add to a room is an area rug. Place it in a single room, or even as a divide between 2 rooms. These rugs come in many colors, and you can really add a lot to a color scheme you have implemented in your room. Persian rugs can add a very warm look to the room too. If you have a hard wood floor you can use the rug for more than just design but also to give you more cushion in between the floor and your feet.
Window treatments are the last step to tie the decor theme together. Make sure if you choose a patter rather than a solid color, it will accommodate the design scheme already in the room. You’ll have many different types of window treatments to consider; tie-back curtains, valances, shirred curtains, and also cafe curtains. Choosing the window treatment will add another texture into the room’s vibe.
It is easy to add color into the home which already has some decor available. Switching up the paint, adding a new area rug, and even a few extra accessories will boost the coziness factor in any room.
