There are many schools that make broad claims to help those who have very specific career ambitions. Anything from general business studies to culinary arts, there is probably a very targeted school geared directly towards your ambitions for future employment if you look hard enough. Among the more popular kinds of institute are fashion and design colleges. The best part is that you can get a serious job in fashion design by way of job placement and apprenticeship programs from these schools.
You can literally spend hours sifting through “the best” of what fashion and design colleges there are. The truth is that a lot of them only claim to be the best fashion colleges and have no real evidence to support the claim. However by way of much research I think that I have put together a list of three of the strongest and most efficient fashion and design colleges in the country.
These are all highly regarded, so none takes priority over any other.
The first to be named is LIM College in downtown Manhattan, New York. They regard themselves as one of the hubs of fashion design schools in the country. The school offers several undergraduate programs of study like visual and fashion merchandising, marketing and management. They also offer graduate MBA programs, for those gearing up for a seriously fast paced and involved fashion career.
The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is also very worthwhile mentioning. For instance, they have several campuses all over California, which permit more range insofar as who can get in. The campuses are situated in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco and San Diego. They too regard themselves as the apex of design education, and this is obvious by the fact that the hit show Project Runway is shot on an FIDM campus. As well, the school offers serious internship and apprenticeship possibilities for industrious students who meet the criteria.
The last school that warrants a spot at the top of the list of fashion and design colleges is the Academy of Art University. AAU won “Best Fashion Design & Apparel Design & Programs of 2008″ for their over the top commitment to their students’ potential job prospects. Their commitment includes offering courses and programs online, so that students who can’t move or commute can still hope to have a serious shot at employment in the fashion world. Some of the companies that pick up AAU graduates are: Louis Vuitton, DKNY, BCBG and many, many more.
These are three very solid schools to get you well on your way to a good job in the fashion industry. You can settle for the innumerable other schools that litter the internet, however these three have a standing that makes for quite a boost to your resume.
A career in fashion design can be exciting and rewarding. But it’s important that you carefully assess the various fashion colleges and schools to make sure you get the best education you can.
