It is not too expensive to choose a laptop with 2 or even 4 GB RAM. You will then know that your computer will be able to handle any number of tasks at the same time.
The size of the internal hard drive is also important. If you have a lot of digital picture, video, and audio files that you will want to be sure you have enough storage space to keep them. A budget laptop will only have an 80GB Drive; many people now go for the models that have 320 or 500 GB storage.
Other factors can also help you make an informed choice. Do you need a built in DVD player? A lightweight thin laptop may not have this device. Also the price you are willing to pay is an essential detail. There are laptops available for $300 though these will not be high powerful machines. A good laptop can easily be had for $1000.
