Airheads – 3 metal heads with toy guns unwillingly take a radio station captive, needing to get play for their one and only demo tape. Like Water for Chocolate – Striking and sumptuous film from a book by Laura Esquivel set in the early part of the 20th century – a youthful woman’s life is conditioned by her serious and steadfast mother, who treats her terribly. Opulent story, not without humor, with an excellent cast and a top of the line performance from lead actress Cavazos. Cast includes Lumi Cavazos, Marco Leonardi, Regina Tome, Mario Ivan Martinez, and Ada Carrasco. (113 minutes,’92)
Shooter – Retired Marine Corp Sniper Bob Lee Swagger is asked to travel to Washington, to help trail another sniper that will try to murder the President. What happens to him next is a absolute shock. The same US government people that he is helping are in reality setting him up to take the fall for the killing. He somehow escapes when he is shot, and is now on the run. He is also ready to fight back.
The Indian in the Cupboard – A boy (Scardino) acquires an ancient chest as a birthday gift, and discovers that when he sets a toy Indian inside and turns the key, the Indian comes to life. Then he sees that the Indian is not a toy, however a authentic human being. Troubles follow, particularly while his best playmate brings to life a toy cowboy. Cast includes Hal Scardino, Lindsay Crouse, Richard Jenkins, Rishi Bhat, and Nestor Serrano. (96 minutes,’95)
Aladdin – Disney’s animated Arabian Days storyline is refined through the sensibility of an old Warner Bros. animation, as Aladdin brings up a Genie who is exploding with shtick. Williams’ side-splitting fast fire shtick forms the attraction of this otherwise conventional tale, colorfully (and tunefully) shown. Cast includes Voices of Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Frank Welker, Gilbert Gottfried, Douglas Seale and the harmonizing voices of Brad Kand and Lea Salonga. Afurika Monogatari – Guide Sayer crashes his plane in wilds of Africa and comes upon a game conserve. Even old Jimmy is dull. The film was filmed in Kenya. Cast includes James Stewart, Philip Sayer, Eleanora Vallone, and Heekura Simba. (120 minutes,’81)
